Chapter 20 – Inherit

On the other side of the city, Emerson had gone on an assignment out of his own curiosity. It was the perfect opportunity to keep tabs on a prey in question, Mrs. Avery Aquitaine. He followed her on her weekend off from responsibility. Emerson wanted to see what drove a wedge between his employer and his daughter

Duncan had provided some pertinent detail that had proven useful to Emerson. Avery was on her way to a brunch engagement at The Seven Deadly, an established restaurant and event space. It was a place known for their indulgence, where many millennials went to wait, hours on end, to get something called millionaire’s bacon. It also had the real estate to host some rather enticing soirees.

It was no surprise that she would be there. She had inherited some of her father’s traits, like his thirst for attention and power. A product of internalized issues and a political advantage, Avery Aquitaine was someone no one should cross and knew how to make a statement. Her persona was that of a lovely future house wife, with the stylings of a devil in disguise. She always made an impression with her attire. With this knowledge, perhaps there was a war brewing within her or maybe she was the one leading it.

That morning, she had gotten ready to head out for the day to meet some friends & make an appearance at brunch. She had used her father’s connections to make her way into the societal realm of some of the city’s most prestigious residences. It was one of the most talked about events in the city. The brunch was the status symbol of the decade.

Among those was one, Topher Crossford. A product of legacy and with a standard to uphold. He had caught Avery’s eye on several occasions. He was tall, tan and educated beyond comparison. It only made sense that after college, he would take over the family business of venture capitalism. He had access to some of the most powerful individuals in the city. This is why he was also another name on the list of victims, but how would Avery have known?

She made her way through the crowd to find Topher. She had an agenda of her own to fulfill, both personal and career. With his connections, she might actually have a winning chance at taking over the city. He was someone to think of much needed change. They were living in the 21st century and had standards to uphold, but also liked to shake society every once in a while. It was indeed a connection of two power-hungry individuals.

She saw him, standing by the bar, with a blue blazer and some dark denim jeans.  His wardrobe definitely made a statement. She was compelled by it. Someone who had so much influence but could still could be a person. Avery knew that he had recently bought a new flat in dire need of redecorating so she thought she’d offer her services.
